Facebook Promotions made EASIER?

Big news for small businesses! Facebook Guidelines changed for Page Promotions. Previously, it was a requirement for promotions to be administered through a third-party app. As of August 27th, that is no longer the case.

“Now, promotions may be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook. For example, businesses can now:

  • Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users message the Page
  • Utilize likes as a voting mechanism”

There is some controversy over whether this will actually make it easier to administer promotions or not. Some small business owners are excited because this makes running contests FREE.

Though others are worried because of the added risks. This makes it more likely for rampant fake accounts and also causes tracking problems. For instance, if someone runs a successful contest with 2,000+ entries, it is much more difficult to track the people who have entered without constant monitoring. The third-party apps – which are still available – track all of these entries for you, with a more hands-off approach for the page manager.

And the most important aspect of all, the key to social media marketing is to develop an email list. How is this to be done without the third-party app to collect this pertinent information?
